Sustainability Can Be The Bedrock Of Business Travel
By Driving Futures
This is a guest post by Claire Carstensen, sustainability manager at Enterprise Holdings.
As a travel supplier, Enterprise Holdings’ sustainable approach to managing its business – and our global presence in airports and neighborhoods – enables us to work with travel buyers to meet their own supply chain sustainability goals. In fact, our business travel customers regularly support sustainable business practices simply by renting a vehicle.
Not long ago, Enterprise was recognized by the Global Business Travel Association (GBTA) for our commitment to incorporating sustainability into the corporate supply chain for business travelers around the world. For our efforts to make sustainability seamless – through more efficient rental branches, broad availability of vehicles with a high MPG rating and our ability to offer innovative urban mobility solutions – GBTA awarded Enterprise its Project ICARUS Sustainability Gold Medal for the second time.
While we’re certainly honored to be recognized as a leader among our peers, what’s more exciting to us is the fact that we’re not alone in our efforts to make sustainable travel the standard, not the exception.
Enterprise was one of more than 1,500 corporate participants at the GBTA 2014 Convention earlier this year. For a session entitled “Speed Date Your Way to a Sustainable Travel Program,” Enterprise joined a diverse group of sustainable travel experts that included Marriott, Wyndham, Autodesk, Inc., and The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. We shared advice with travel buyers on how to effectively integrate sustainability measures into corporate travel practices, including best practices for measurement, communication and reporting successes.
And there’s more to come. In recent months, we’ve been working with GBTA to take the pulse of travel buyers around the world to focus in on their greatest sustainability needs. Based on what we’re learning, we look forward early next year to sharing some new insights to drive sustainable business travel forward.
